Challenge to solve social problems

In addition to the research activities at the EJ-Research Center for Disaster Risk Mitigation, EJEC conducts a number of research and technological development efforts initiated by various departments, teams or individuals. These activities are quite diverse, ranging from the pursuit to solve a question or problem encountered in daily work to joint research with an external research institution or univrsity. Although some do not necessary produce immediate results, many bear fruit through the process of trial and error, leading to technological improvement.

PATENT

Patent No. 4242376

Lighting facilities of tunnel

As a tunnel illumination system, the system controls illumination inside a tunnel using sensors installed at the tunnel entrances to detect vehicles and pedestrians. The system also has the function of issuing an error message when illumination inside a tunnel is not activated despite the entry of a vehicle of pedestrian.

Patent No. 4097590

Underground passage facility

The technology concerned has achieved crime prevention and energy saving lighting at an underground passage. Image sensors installed inside and outside the tunnel (underground passage) control the level of brightness depending on the presence or absence of pedestrians inside the tunnel. The technology has multiple functions, including image recording and delivery, adjustment of the brightness and closure of the entrances in the case when a security issue is judged to exist by the cameras, microphones and reporting apparatus.

Patent No. 3975406
(Joint acquisition)

Structure repair construction plan support system

The technology concerned is capable of quantitatively demonstrating where repair work is required or not based on multiple factors relating to the deterioration of a structure.

Patent No. 3975407
(Joint acquisition)

Disaster prevention operation plan support system

The technology concerned is capable of quantitatively demonstrating where a disaster has occurred or not based on multiple factors relating to the occurrence of a disaster.

Patent No. 3935727

Lighting facilities of tunnel

As a tunnel illumination system, the system controls illumination inside a tunnel using sensors installed at the tunnel entrances to detect vehicles and pedestrians. The system also has the function of issuing an error message when illumination inside a tunnel is not activated despite the entry of a vehicle or a pedestrian.

Patent No. 3501454
(Joint acquisition)

Method for supporting disaster damage prevention project plan and its system

This is a method to derive the rules of sediment disaster occurrence based on topographical, geological, vegetation and other data at a sediment disaster site and similar data at a site where no sediment disaster has occurred.

Patent No. 3421696
(joint acquisition)

Public works program planning support method, its system, its program and computer-readable recording medium recording its program

This is a method to objectively prioritize multiple candidate sites for public works. It is most effective when the transparency and accountability of public works are demanded.

Patent No. 4701371
(Joint acquisition)

Disaster occurrence probability evaluation system and program thereof

This is a method to calculate a time-series disaster occurrence probability based on past actual incidents of a disaster in conjunction with rainfall fluctuations.

Patent No. 4595094
(Joint acquisition)

Disaster prevention comprehensive plan support system and program of the same

For judgement of the level of risk at a disaster risk site and of the degree of deterioration of a structure, data constituting noise hinders accurate evaluation because of the huge volume of data involved. The patented method is to eliminate noise data using the SVM method and to determine the level of risk and regularity of the degree of deterioration with highly accurate data.

Patent No. 4817363

Hazard evaluation system

In this system, criteria to separate the occurrence or non-occurrence of a disaster and the necessity or non-necessity for repair work are established to explain the level of disaster risk and necessity for repair work.
